Collaboration
I enjoy working with organisations and researchers who are interested in accessibility, inclusive design, emerging technologies, and cultural heritage.
My expertise spans accessibility, low vision, human-computer interaction, augmented and mixed reality, computer vision, participatory design, digital heritage, and software engineering. Through both industry and academic experience, I have worked with the target users/audience, developers, researchers, museums, charities, and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical solutions to real-world challenges.
I welcome conversations at any stage, whether you have a well-defined project, an accessibility challenge, an idea for a funding application, or simply wish to explore opportunities for future collaboration.
Who I Work With
I am interested in working with:
- Museums and galleries
- Heritage and cultural organisations
- Accessibility charities
- Technology companies
- Public sector organisations
- Academic researchers
Previous collaborations have included Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, Amgueddfa Cymru (the National Museum of Wales), and researchers from disciplines including computer science, optometry, architecture, design, and print research.
How We Can Work Together
I am particularly interested in collaborations that create real-world impact through accessibility, emerging technologies, and inclusive design.
Partnerships often begin with a challenge, opportunity, or area of interest and can develop in different ways depending on the goals of the organisations involved. This might include exploring accessibility challenges, developing and evaluating prototypes, testing new concepts in real-world settings, or bringing together expertise from different disciplines and sectors.
I am especially interested in knowledge exchange activities that connect universities, industry, charities, museums, galleries, and community organisations. These collaborations can help transform research ideas into practical outcomes, generate evidence for future work, and identify opportunities for longer-term partnerships.
Many successful collaborations naturally evolve into larger projects, including jointly developed funding applications and research initiatives. However, collaboration does not need to begin with a funded project. I am equally happy to discuss early-stage ideas, emerging challenges, or opportunities where a conversation may be the best first step.
Student-Supported Projects
Some collaborations may also be suitable for supervised student projects. Organisations are welcome to approach me with project ideas, accessibility challenges, or areas they would like to explore further. Where appropriate, these can be developed into supervised student projects, allowing students to gain experience working on real-world problems while providing organisations with valuable insights, prototypes, or evaluations.
Recent student projects have explored topics including accessibility, low vision, healthcare applications of AI, and real-time artwork enhancement technologies. Several students have gone on to roles in industry and further academic study. You can see more on the teaching and supervision page
Not every collaboration involves students, and I am equally interested in direct research, consultancy, and partnership opportunities.
